Ashwani Kumar's Jara Hat Ke Songs

2 Responses to "RADIO SLBC (CEYLON) AUGUST 15, 2009"

The song “Ae mere watan ke logon …” was sung by Lata at a special program held in Delhi at the Red Fort (I think) in 1963 to raise funds for the Sino – India war that was going on. Nehruji was so moved by the song that he had tears in his eyes. The song had direct references to the war in the sense that in many of the battles, it was a handful on Indian soldiers battling a contingent of Chinese “dus dus ko ek ne maara…”, “hum khel rahe the holi, woh jhel rahe the goli…” Since I lived in Delhi through those days, it brings back vivid memories of those times, when even we schoolchildren tried to raise funds for the war.
